Edwards runs away with non-thrilling race

I know it's the announcers job to make things exciting and that's what they were doing Sunday during the last couple of laps of the Sprint Cup race in Texas.
Carl Edwards won because he was hardly challenged in the second half of Sunday's race. Sure Jimmie Johnson looked like he was going to cut into Edwards lead but it never got that close.
The only drama that occurred was when Martin Truex Jr. went up in smoke causing a two-lap shootout with only 11 cars on the lead lap. When the race restarted Edwards took off and was never challenged.
While he was running away with it, the race for those in fourth through 11th was really where the action was. But we really didn't get to see much of that.
And when the race was over, I heard the announcers go on and on about the exciting finish. Kurt Busch pushing Ryan Newman to the front of the Daytona 500 was an exciting finish. Busch and Ricky Craven racing and bouncing off of each other at Darlington a few years ago was an exciting finish.
There really wasn't much exciting to see in this race. There weren't many cautions (six in all) and there weren't many passes for the lead. That's probably why a lot of people were bored with the race. Out of 8,021 votes at Yahoo's NASCAR site, 72 percent said Sunday's race was boring. Only 28 percent said enjoyed it.
I couldn't help but flip back and forth between the race and the Atlanta Braves game against the New York Mets. Once that game was over, I just put down the remote control and watched the rest of the race.
My wife took a good snooze on the couch. When she woke up I told her she hadn't missed anything.
But that's going to happen from time to time during a NASCAR season. Not every race is going to come down to one of those fantastic finishes. In this case, you have to tip your hat to Edwards and his Ford and start getting ready for the next race which will be held this Saturday at the one-mile track in Phoenix.
On Friday, I'll give you my predictions for that race and any other information I've seen or heard.
