As the Sprint Cup Circuit rolls into Loudon, it seems the big rumor is what is Tony Stewart going to do next year? Even though he is signed with Joe Gibbs through 2009, the rumor mill has the two-time champion buying HAAS.
Now HAAS gets their engines from Hendrick's which would be one tempting offer for Stewart who has yet to win a race this season. Right now, the main driver getting attention at Joe Gibbs is Kyle Busch. But make no mistake, Stewart is still the leader at JGR.
What Stewart needs now is a couple of good runs to jump back into the middle of the pack of the top 12 so that he can secure a place in the Chase.
Many have said the distraction of if Stewart is returning to JGR or not is causing him to run bad. Honestly, Stewart has just had some bad luck. He's also been at the wrong place on the track during several races.
But Stewart holds the key to 2009. Many people are watching and waiting to see what he's going to do. Drivers like Ryan Newman whose contract at Penske is up at the end of this season. He may be interested in driving at JGR if Stewart leaves.
Newman is a free agent who seems to be looking and seeing what rides may come open during the next couple of months.
As for the race, New Hampshire Motor Speedway isn't fancy and isn't big. But it usually creates some kind of drama near the end.
Jeff Burton has had some good success there and so has Newman.
Of course you can't count out Kyle or Kurt Busch and Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon should be strong there also.
