Getting to talk with Petty a big treat

As you can tell by now, I'm a big NASCAR fan. I don't just have one favorite driver, I like a lot of them. So when I heard that Kyle Petty was coming to Dublin I knew that I was going.
Hopefully, you got the chance to go out to the Pilot Center on Saturday and meet Petty and former Georgia Bulldog star Herschel Walker. There was about 250 people who stopped by to see Petty when he stopped their in part of the Chick-fil-A Kyle Petty Charity Ride which they are doing to help raise money for the Victory Junction Gang Camp.
My wife and I got there early and I got to talk to many people like myself who are big NASCAR fans. Some even came up to me and told me they like the fact we're putting more NASCAR in The Courier Herald and they also enjoy this blog. Thank you for those comments.
After all, I'm just a big NASCAR fan like ya'll.
The chance to see and talk to Petty (his interview, pictures and my column about this event will be in the Monday's edition of The Courier Herald) was great. It wasn't the traditional interview where I would get to sit down and talk and shoot the breeze like I do with area coaches and players, but it would have to do. I had to stand and interview Petty while he signed autographs and took pictures. In fact, I may be in some of those pictures interviewing Petty. (If you don't mind, e-mail or send me a copy. My e-mail is sports@courier-herald.com)
I also got a brief chance to talk with Walker just before he left. I remember watching Walker leap over defenders when he was at Georgia and then I would try to do same when I would rake up a big pile of leaves.
The charity ride was only at the Pilot for approximately 30 minutes. In that time, both Petty and Walker signed many autographs and took pictures. It was an experience I'll never forget.
