Tony Stewart won the last Sprint Cup Race in Chicago last year. He would love to have a repeat performance this Saturday under the lights.
He's already made news this week with his - surprise, surprise - announcement that he is leaving Joe Gibbs Racing. Now, come on. We all knew this was going to happen. The media has been talking about it for months.
This now leaves Ryan Newman, the 2008 Daytona 500 champion, as the best free agent driver on the market. Rumor has it that he's going to join Stewart at his new team.
Is this a good move for Stewart? Only time will tell. This will give Stewart a chance to make decisions about his team without going to the team's owner. That happens when you own 50 percent of the team.
As for the race in Chicago, which will be the first time they run under the lights, Stewart should be a favorite when it begins. Also Kevin Harvick has won at this track twice and would like to get back to victory lane.
Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch (you really can't count him out of any race) should also be in contention.
