Tropical Storm Hanna made sure that the race to get into the Chase will be wild. With qualifying canceled, the drivers will be lined up by owner points which means Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards will be on the front row when the race begins on Sunday. This also means that three drives, including Joey Logano, won't be racing.
Some media, even when qualifying is rained out, say or write that those who didn't make the race "failed to qualify." While this is true, it's seems wrong to me. By writing or saying "failed to qualify," makes it seem like the drivers tried to and didn't make the race because of what they were doing. Only later do you find out it was because of rain. It seems to me that NASCAR needs to take another look at how they qualify, especially with the way sponsors seem to be disappearing.
In the Nationwide Series, they have been known to qualify and race on the same day. Why, in certain cases, can't the Sprint Cup guys do that?
Back to this race, the favorites of course will be up front. I'm talking about Busch and Edwards. They both had good cars at Bristol a few weeks ago and I don't see why they shouldn't here. For those not locked into the race, they will be on the edge as the laps wind down. And for us watching at home, we'll probably be reminded over and over on who is in and not in the Chase at that moment during the race.
It should be a fun day. Depending on if Mother Nature lets them get started
